The pick of the bunch, 2017.

It’s finally time to shut the diary, throw out the calendars and round off what was a HECK of a year. 2017 threw some huge curve balls, handed out some awesome opportunities and most importantly, FLEW by.

I’ve bundled together my TOP product from each category (and it’s slightly uglier lil sis!) to share with you what I’d recommend you ‘add to your cart’ to start your 2018 off right.

A few things before we begin:

  • All top products are linked- none of these links are affiliate. I have done my best to use local sites at the best possible price
  • I have combination/dry skin with minimal texture/acne.
  • Some products are also favourites in my freelance kit so I may not use them personally often, but they’re a daily staple for my clients.
  • As per always, I encourage you to do your OWN research before purchasing anything I have recommended.
  • All images are from Pinterest.

PRIMER

BECCABacklight Priming Filter- would love to try a sample!

The Becca Backlight Priming Filter 100% took the cake for my favourite base in 2017. It hydrates, adds a beautiful glow and masks the appearance of texture on my skin. I went through 3 LARGE bottles and 2 travel sized ones, and although I’m not currently using it in my every day routine- I know I can count on it.

an honorable mention also goes to… The Too Faced HangoveRX primer, The Mecca Cosmetica Plumping Balm, MAC Natural Radiance.

FOUNDATION

MAC 'Pro Longwear' Nourishing Waterproof FoundationMAC Pro Longwear Nourishing Waterproof Foundation ($33.00 // Nordstrom). I wore this in the Summer time when I needed my face to remain in place for an extra long time. My skin is so oily it doesn’t stay on all day, but it held up really well, even in the 112 degree Las Vegas heat!

MAC Pro Longwear Nourishing Waterproof Foundation. I CANNOT, REPEAT, CANNOT FAULT THIS FOUNDATION. When I first started using it, it took me a while to get used to the texture and how to work with it, but now I’m god damn obsessed. It’s full coverage, medium weight, water-proof, long wear and bloody awesome. If you’re a MAC fan, make this your next try!

an honorable mention also goes to… L’Oreal Lumi Cushion, MAC Face and Body, Wet n Wild Photo Focus.

CONCEALER

Pin for Later: See the Entire MAC Cosmetics x Maleficent Makeup Collection Prep + Prime Highlighter in Bright Forecast ($25)

Before I conceal, I ALWAYS, without hestitation, grab my MAC Prep + Prime Highlighter Pen in Bright Forecast. It’s a lightweight, peach toned cream that helps to eliminate the blue/purple tone in the hollow of your eye contour. If every concealer in the world was discontinued, I’d be most upset about this one..

Rimmel Wake Me Up Make Up Concealer *rec Trinny

Rimmel Wake Me Up Concealer. I used this when I VERY first started using makeup… then I was gifted it middle of this year and I’ve been sold ever since. Its creamy, a good coverage and minimises creasing under the eye. The colour is also natural and not too yellow toned. I LOOOOVE.

an honorable mention also goes to… MAC Pro Longwear Concealer, Tarte Shape Tape.

POWDER

RCMA Makeup No Color Powder can be used for all powdering purposes. Because it has no filler or pigment, it will not alter the color of foundation bases. RCMA Powder will keep your foundations set and dry without caking! ** Limit 3 per Customer **

RCMA No Colour Powder terrified me when I first picked it up at a Pro MUA shop in LA, it appears LITERALLY WHITE and the bottle is a royal pain in my ass. But it’s smooth, buttery and TOTALLY colourless. This takes the cake over my other mentions because it’s the only powder I will ever need in my kit, and I literally love it on myself. If you’re not an MUA, check out the other options because they could be slightly more user friendly, but for the price…. you can’t go wrong! (PS. I have been using this in my kit for almost a year and I’m not even half way through my first bottle…)

an honorable mention also goes to… Laura Mercier Translucent Powder, MAC Mineralise Skin Finish Natural, MAC Studio Fix.

BROWS

Pre-Order Now: Benefit precisely, my brow pencil ultra-fine shape & define

Benefit Precisely My Brow Pencil in Shade 6 has been a love of mine since I was given it at the Pagan Marie Launch. I love how fine the tip is and having a spoolie on the end gets two ticks from me! The colour is perfect and matches my henna brow tattoo to help fill in any sparse areas!

Benefit Just Upped The Brow Game In A Major Way #refinery29 http://www.refinery29.com/2016/05/110652/new-benefit-brow-collection-2016#slide-2 Say hello to the new and improved Gimme Brow. This award-winning tint is getting a new shade. According to Scott, if you're looking to build the product, wait a minute between coats to get the thickness you want. Benefit Gimme Brow, $24, available in July at Benefit. ...

I can’t use a clear brow gel since I met this babe.. talk about convenience! I’m currently having heart palpitations because its OOS worldwide due to a recall, but you bet I’ll be restocking my sad empty one ASAP! (PS. no link, no-one has it *tears*)

an honorable mention also goes to… MAC Eye Brows in Lingering and Spiked, MAC Eye Shadow in Coquette, Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Wiz.

EYESHADOW PALETTES

Violet Voss Holy Grail Eyeshadow Palette at Beauty Bay

DEAR GOD VIOLET VOSS, TAKE MY MONEY. Whilst a late addition to my collection (we talkin October here guys..) I adore this thing. The Violet Voss Holy Grail palette was raved about when it launched and I am really not one to give into hype, so I held back. I LOVE IT. The shadows are buttery, the colour selection is well thought out and the packaging is logical. It’s a bit of a splurge, but works out to a mere $4.75 per shadow which is a-la-worth-it.

an honorable mention also goes to… Viseart Matte Neutrals, Ciate London x Chloe Morello, Tartelette in Bloom, Viseart Golden Hour, Anastasia Beverly Hills Modern Renaissance and Makeup by Mario.

MASCARA

Works great for bottom lashes. Its carbon black pigment curls and lifts, while separating each lash. // Extended Play GigaBlack Lash by MAC

You sit here and tell me that you hate your mascara because no matter what you do, it ALWAYS transfers under your eyes. I’ll sit here and tell you, GF U GOTTA TRY DIS ONE. It’s quite simple really, this mascara is specially formulated to be water WASHABLE, which makes it a) easy to get off, and b) hard to sneaky sneaky down your face. MAC Extended Play Lash is my BFFL.

an honorable mention also goes to… MAC Upward Lash, Benefit Roller Lash, Too Faced Better Than Sex, Maybelline Great Lash.

BRONZER

The most amazing Bronzer for contouring I've ever tried! Benefit HoolaBenefit Hoola-Beauty

Benefit Hoola is probably the only product that would have also been in my 2016 favourites, if I had one. I’m super picky with bronzer and often go through fads where I just hate EVERYTHING, but this babe is a goodie. It’s not too warm, not too cool and easily buildable. I particularly like applying it with it’s brush (not the AWFUL one that it comes with!!)

an honorable mention also goes to… MAC Give Me Sun, Too Faced Milk Chocolate Soliel, Hourglass Ambient Bronzer.

CONTOUR

This silky, matte powder shadow goes on smoothly & blends easily. The densely pigmented formula can be layered and comes in a range of beautiful shades for defining lids and lining eyes. (You can even use it to define your brows.) Comes in a sleek, flip-top compact that can be used individually or popped into an empty Palette (sold separately). Click here for Bobbi Brown's Eye Shadow Guide.

I’m yet to find a contour product that actually does what it should, so until then I’m sticking to other products and using them to contour. This Bobbi Brown Eyeshadow in Taupe was an accidental purchase circa 2015, I hated it on my eyes and then VOILA, CONTOUR. (Note: the OG shadow still exists and I am yet to hit pan 3 years on…)(Side Note: I genuinely want to know how I ‘accidentally’ purchased a $56 eyeshadow before I’d even got a proper job LOL)

an honorable mention also goes to… MAC Harmony Blush, MAC Studio Fix Perfecting Stick Concealer in NW45, Benefit Hoola Quickie Contour Stick

BLUSH

MAC Blush Warm Soul

I hate blush, so MAC’s Warm Soul is perfect for me. It adds a subtle colour to my cheeks and blends well into my bronzer. It’s got a beautiful sheen that doesn’t enhance texture and like every other powder product this far, good luck hitting pan.

an honorable mention also goes to… Benefit Rockatuer. That’s probably it, lol.

HIGHLIGHTER

Top Dupes for Dose of Colors Fuego || undefined https://link.crwd.fr/4pHq

This is almost mean, because you can no longer buy the Dose of Colours Desi x Katy collab, but FUEGO was the bomb. I bought 3, naturally, so I’ll continue to love it until I can’t, but until then check out my next few picks x

an honorable mention also goes to… Laura Geller Gilded Honey, Mecca Cosmetica Enlightened Trio in Warm, MAC Oh Darling!, Becca Pressed in Opal.

LIPSTICKS

Instructions for use: Work the color from the heart of the lips to the corners 9g/ 0.03oz.

The Hourglass Confession Refillable Lipsticks take the cake for my FAVOURITE formula in 2017. I say formula because you get PISS ALL product (0.9g of product compared to MAC at 3g) but the finish, the pigment and the packaging has my heart. I love how slimline it is, how sleek and beautiful and how you can buy refills. ‘I LUST FOR’ is my favourite shade, a beautiful nude peach.

an honorable mention also goes to (in order of swatching in the video on my Instagram page)… Too Faced Peach Lip Oil in Papa Don’t Peach, MAC x Nicki Minaj in Nicki’s Nude (L.E so also try Shy Girl and Patisserie), MAC Liptensity in Doe and MAC Retro Matte Liquid in Fashion Legacy. There’s a very strong peachy nude theme as well as a MAC theme- I am totally not biased I just rate them.

So if anything, I hope your shopping carts are full (and your birthdays are coming up…). If you need any recommendations on anything EVER please don’t hesitate to reach out to me- I love a yarn!!

In awesome makeup and a bloody SICK year,

Kasia xx
